Words are few tonight. Just an inward keening and restless feeling of despair for a country made up of people who love guns and power more than human lives. So I’m lighting candles and sending prayers up and out for peace to prevail. Reaching out for any scrap of hope that someday, something might change.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We could decide, as a society, to make meaningful change toward a safer gun culture. We just need to do it.
In addition to my prayers, I’ve also signed a petition and donated to Moms Demand Action. I’ve also contacted my representatives. Here are a few ways you can put action behind your lament too:
Moms Demand Action: Volunteer, donate, sign petitions, etc. to end gun violence
Resist Bot: Send a message to Congress using Resist Bot, demanding a ban on assault weapons. It’ll take you less than 2 minutes. Text Sign PZNNBO to 50409.
March for Our Lives: Volunteer, donate, sign petitions, march, and other actions to end gun violence.
Please add other organizations and ways to contribute to the fight to ban assault weapons or end gun violence in the comments. If you aren’t supportive of safer gun laws, then please take your comments elsewhere.
I’m not going to let despair win. Are you with me?
I just signed the petition to my senators. Thank you Naomi. We must put an end to this ongoing craziness.
